About Me
I'm the author of Twisted Words: Torture and Liberalism in Imperial Britain (The Ohio State University Press).
My review essays have appeared in Public Books, BigCityLit, and The Strategy Bridge, among other outlets. I've also published scholarship in Victorian Review and Traumatic Tales: British Nationhood and National Literature (Routledge). I'm currently working on a second monograph, tentatively titled Weaponizing Mass Destruction: Planetary Biohazards at the Ends of Empire, which examines the ethics, technologies, and ecologies of biological forms of warfare in the literature and global histories of the late-nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries, particularly in relation to the British Empire.
I'm Associate Professor of Victorian literature and culture at Western Washington University.
